Simon Perchik (1923–2022) was born in Paterson, New Jersey. He was a graduate of New York University where he received both his B.A. in English and his law degree. He was a bomber pilot during World War II and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, ETO Ribbon with three Battle Stars, and the Presidential Unit Citation.
He was admitted to the New York Bar in 1951 and was in a private law practice until 1975. He served as five years (1975–1980) as Assistant District Attorney for Suffolk County, New York. In 1980 he retired from his law practice in order to write full-time. He was reputed to be the most widely-published poet in the USA , with innumerable magazine appearances. His Shearsman collection has since been reprinted in Hands Collected: The Books of Simon Perchik 1949–1999 (Pavement Saw Press, Columbus, Ohio, 2000).
