As a village child in the German Palatinate, Alfred Moritz, a.k.a. "Mauricet" (1930–2011) could never have imagined the odyssey that was about to overtake him in the European turmoil of the mid-20th century. Living through Kristallnacht, the mass exodus into France, and the German occupation, he escaped the fate of one-and-a-half million Jewish children who did not survive the Holocaust.
In his memoir, he sought to understand and document the persecution of those whose only crime was to be "different."
