Hazel Frew was born in 1968 and grew up in Broughty Ferry on the east coast of Scotland. She graduated from The University of Glasgow in 1991 and after a brief spell with The Glasgow Media Group started writing poems and short stories. Her poems have been widely published in magazines including Orbis, The Rialto, Painted, spoken and New Writing Scotland. Her pamphlet, Clockwork Scorpion, was published by Rack Press in January 2007 and launched very successfully at the Swedenborg Hall in Bloomsbury, London. Seahorses is her first full length collection with Shearsman Books. Hazel has multiple allergies, which impact on her life and poetry. She lives in the west end of Glasgow.
