Jorge Humberto Chávez was born in Ciudad Juárez, on the US/Mexican border in 1959. Since 1980, he has published eight collections of poetry in Mexico, Te diría que fuéramos al Río Bravo a llorar pero debes saber que ya no hay río ni llanto being the most recent, as well as being the winner of the prestigious Aguascalientes National Poetry Prize in 2013. His work has been translated into several languages and books have appeared in English (a selected poems in the U.S.A. in 2003), French and Italian. A major career retrospective volume is due to appear from Ediciones Vaso Roto (Monterrey & Madrid).
Chávez also founded the Chihuahua International Festival in Ciudad Juárez, founded and coordinated the international writers’ meetings, Literatura en el Bravo, and curated the International Literary Festival in San Luis Potosí.
