As a village child in the German Palatinate, Alfred Moritz could never imagine the odyssey that was about to overtake him in the European turmoil of the mid-twentieth century. Living through Kristallnacht, the mass exodus into France, and the German occupation, he escaped the fate of a million and a half Jewish children who did not survive the Holocaust. The author seeks to understand and document the persecution of those whose only crime was to be "different".

Originaire d'un village du Palatinat allemand, Alfred Moritz était loin de se douter de l'odyssée qui allait être la sienne du fait des bouleversements en Europe en ce turbulent 20ème siecle. Il eut à être temoin de l'infâme pogrome connu sous le nom de Kristallnacht, de l'exode de Juin 40 et de l'occupation allemande en France. Il échappa au sort de quelque million et demi d'enfants israelites qui ne survecurent pas a la Shoah, ou Holocauste. Au travers des souvenirs recueillis en ce mémoire, l'auteur cherche à comprendre et à relater la persecution de ceux, et de celles, dont le seul crime fut d'être different de la masse.

Jahrhundert noch bescheren sollte. Obwohl er die sogenannte Reichskristallnacht erleben mueßte, den Exodus nach Frankreich und auch die deutsche Besetzung dieses Landes, war es ihm gegeben, dem grausamen Schicksal von eineinhalb Millionen israelitischen Kindern zu entkommen, die dem "Holocaust" zum Opfer fielen. In diesem Erinnerungsbuch versucht der Autor die Verfolgung von denen zu verstehen und zu dokumentieren, deren einziges "Verbrechen" es war, anders zu sein als die Mehrheit.
